Unrequited Love

A little heart I gave while I looked up at you,
Being careful not to misbehave, hoping you’d look at me too;
Your love I crave yet only further apart we grew,
You’ll never hear me cry but if only you knew.

I screamed and I shouted but my voice soon faded,
All I could hear was the ticking of every second I counted, while I waited
On your door and pounded, I cried bitter tears I tasted —
Until my heart was thoroughly wounded and my love stripped naked.

Calling your name only left me exhausted; everything I need, you provided
But love was forgotten and still left unrequited,
In my tomb I’ve fallen; my heart, finally quiet —
There will I find my solace and we shall both enjoy it.
