Sleeping Beauty

For a long time I’ve slept,
Never allowing myself to accept,
The reality of the truth,
That’s so painful to soothe.

I close my eyes and turn away,
–never to betray;
Looking nowhere,
While I silently say my prayer.

Keeping butterflies behind my lips,
–reality just close to my fingertips;
Shielding you with my body,
Until everything becomes foggy.

I can’t sleep forever, nor can I pretend;
The truth I can’t amend,
I can only accept,
No one is perfect
